"You don't make a photograph with just a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved."
Rachel is a self-taught photographer who has specialized in photographing and empowering women for more than a decade. She is an award-winning, internationally published speaker and educator who has presented at conventions and taught at creativeLIVE.
She has always been a natural at setting her clients at ease and not just snapping pictures, but capturing the genuine connection she makes with them. She effortlessly draws out their true personality despite the nervousness and discomfort that usually accompany having photos taken. The result is not only beautiful portraits her clients will treasure for a lifetime, but an unexpectedly empowering and enlightening experience. We can learn a lot about ourselves when we sit for a portrait for an artist that removes the mask we often wear to face the world.
At the end of 2014, Rachel was forced to stop working due to spine disease. But the need to create overcomes all obstacles, so this year she is coming out of early retirement. She will be accepting select bookings once a month locally in Portland Oregon and is very excited about her new venture that will allow her to travel again; teaming up with a photographer she mentored, Angelina Luciana. With another photographer taking half of the physical demands of shooting and time sitting at the computer editing (which exacerbates Rachel's chronic pain), 2020 will be a test year and if all goes well, they will team up for a few years. Right now, nothing is guaranteed so if you've been waiting for her to return to be photographed by her, this is your chance!
